Makeup, Football and My Lens of Choice...

It was a beautiful day, in fact a perfect day for some winter football.  We stepped out of our car and the it started…raining, pouring without the hope of letting up.

It didn’t matter.  The Seahawks were playing the San Francisco 49ers and the fans were amped!  It’s been forever since I have been to a professional football game so when Bob said he had front row end zone tickets with a bunch of crazy, screaming fans…I was in!  I thought I had enough blue eye shadow on to fit in…I mean I think Mimi of the Drew Carey show would’ve felt threatened but  comparatively I was pretty toned down to the regular fans!

I debated whether I should take my camera…sometimes there is just a time and place to use your iPhone but after a bit of deliberation I took it.  The next question was which lens.  I feel fortunate that I have options but sometimes it’s hard to be discreet and not be ‘HERE I AM with my camera…outta my way’!!

Again after vacillating (thanks to my dictionary for the spelling aka google) we decided to take our Sigma 50-500mm f/4.5-6.3…it’s big, it’s obnoxious and thankfully Bob is the one who carries it most of the time.  However for this game it was amazing.  To be able to get in as close as some of the news photographers below us was awesome, just a little better than my iPhone could do!

I am in no way an equipment expert that is for sure.  Bob is my techy and researcher of all things, however what I do know is this lens has come in quite handy!  For outdoor weddings it’s a dream.   It allows Bob, my second shooter, to be farther away and still capture those intimate moments with the option of a wide shot as well.  Yes the f-stop is higher and no it’s not ideal for indoors, but when zoomed in it still compresses the background how I like it and with the Canon 5D Mark III’s high ISO capabilities it’s kind of a nice addition to our arsonal.

Thanks to Bob for the images below...

I can't wait for 2013!  More football, crazy fans, and definitely weddings! Oh and by the way in case you missed it....the Seahawks WON!!!
