As I sat on a plane headed to LA to see a friend, I had a plan…talk to no one, put my headphones in and sleep.  It was then I found myself in a row with a lovely family and a cute little 4 year old sitting next to me.    She looked up at me and gave me a half smile not really sure what to think of me just yet.  As we proceeded to talk about what snacks she had, I won her over with few photos of my own girls!!  I mean I may be a photographer BUT I am also a proud mama! 

Her mom and dad struck up conversation and were kind enough to ask me ‘What do you do?’. So of course without hesitation I said ‘I am a photographer’.   As we conversed back and forth they asked me what kind of photographer.  This question makes me dig deep into why I do what I do…get past the white noise in my head and be confident in knowing why I photograph life how I do.

People often ask...am I  going to specialize into one genre of photography.  My photography journey started out with shooting anything and everything…and slowly I have morphed into what I know and love to photograph…LIFE.  I love the variety that life brings.  All the different people and age groups I get to meet and the stories of their life that I get to document … I mean variety IS spice of life, right!?

My husband often jokes?? about having a third baby…my response um…NO... I have another baby….my business.  It takes time and love and dedication and allows me to balance life with my other babies (who are growing up far too fast).  I want to have the time to take care of my clients and balance home life and I am so thankful photography has allowed me to do that.  Not to mention I get the best baby fix at a newborn session and I get to sleep at night!!

I love to travel and want to make the most of any trip.  Whether it’s across the world, LA, or my small hometown in rural Saskatchewan , these trips help me push my photographic style.  I start to see things in a new way, maybe even taking a photo by accident that I happen to love and figuring out why I love it.  Photographing life with cars and people and culture in the background....LIFE...and realizing that a perfect photo is subjective!  

LIFE is circular…and I love that I get to often see my clients more than just once.  It’s relational and directional not just a one way street…and it’s a big part of why I do what I do.
