It was another Saturday morning and the smell of fresh baked bread wafted through the air. No I didn’t live in a bakery but with the ‘skilz’ my mom possesses, one might wonder. I would stumble down the stairs in my drowsy stooper and hear the bread machine churning away, not only to find fresh bread but cinnamon rolls oozing with caramel goodness, buns and breadsticks. Gluten-free, I think not…but sweet tasty-ness…YES!
My mom is always a trooper in the Saskatchewan 'brisk' winter weather. And when I say brisk I mean minus 40...I have to say I forgot how cold that really was. Brrrr... In the midst of being outside she said 'I think I need a new photo of myself...I mean you never know when something could happen"... (way to put a damper on the visit mom) BUT in the midst of the cold and in the middle of the cow corral she posed and now my mom has a 'headshot'. It's not the ideal studio but for now it works.
These days morning comes too fast. I am an early bird...THEY say they ‘catch the worm’ but I am happy with my homemade iced coffee. (Makes me chilly after thinking of winter weather). I often still stumble downstairs longing, needing, craving that first coffee and trying to fit in any bit of work, aka social media. I am a morning person…I think I always was and I am starting to think I always will be. Even on vacation, the dawn is a beautiful thing! As I hear my girls rustle and roll out of bed, I know exactly by their steps which one it is. The highlight of my day…as each one comes to the bottom of the stairs they look at me and say ‘Goodmorning mama’. (You would think I grew up in the south?) I can’t always say it’s with enthusiasm or a smile, but each with their own special case of bed head I turn to them and smile!!
For me these are my memories…past and present. We all have them and are in the midst of creating them. As mother’s day approaches it makes me appreciate and savor them even more.
On Mother’s Day, May 12th, Gold Creek Community Church is celebrating MOMS! With tons of 'STUFF'...including chocolates, flowers and a photobooth…by me! I will be doing some ‘Mom & Me’ photos before & after each service.
Gold Creek has become home for us. I will never forget our first time attending there. Not only did we know people as soon as we walked in the door, but after my daughter was having a rough girl morning…Cheryl, one of the faithful greeters walked straight to Eva and said ‘My…don’t you look beautiful’. And with a kick in her step Eva shifted gears and bounced into her new Sunday school class. Something I know Eva needed, and I will never forget!
Pastor Dan & his wife Audrey have become dear friends of ours. Not only are his sermons real but they are two of the 'realest' people I know. We had the pleasure of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro with them almost a year ago...and even on the side of a mountain Dan turned on the romance...GO PASTOR DAN!
