She grew up in Olympia and over five years ago decided to make the move to live in Seattle. He happened to live in Seattle. They had some friends that thought it would be a great idea to set these two up on a blind date. Gretchen, completely not interested, hesitated. Should she go!? Well she did and now her and Jacob have been an item ever since.
4 years had gone by and like any relationship there are bumps, and pot holes and many things that occur on any relationship road. Just last year they bought a Napa Valley package at a charity auction. Jacob thought it would be the perfect time to surprise Gretchen and propose while on this little trip. Jacob's sister, April, and her husband decided to join. Everyone knew what was about to happen but Gretchen. The wine tour was occurring and everyone was taking pictures when April suggested she take one of Gretchen and Jacob. Gretchen enjoying the wine soon realized that Jacob was on his knee…completely shocked she was speechless. As Jacob looked at her, ring in hand he said ‘SOOOO??’. She quickly snapped to reality and said ‘YES YES YES’!
Earlier in the day Jacob's sister had slipped away to ‘take a call’ when really she was grabbing a bottle of champagne to celebrate after the proposal. Gretchen could not believe how calm Jacob was…she had the perfect setting and was blissfully enjoying what had just happened.
With Jacob being a firefighter and in the air force reserves and Gretchen a clinical researcher at Benaroya Research Institute, they both have opportunities in their jobs to spend time and connect with families in need. You can sense with both of them they definitely have giving hearts.
They decided to get married at Dairyland in Snohomish. I love that they still chose to do an outdoor ceremony in October. We had a beautifully overcast foggy morning with some misting rain to bless their ceremony in the afternoon. Gretchen was so laid back and accepted it all as it was.
Stunning as ever Gretchen approached Jacob for their first look and his reaction was priceless. Dazed by her beauty they took a moment to take it all in. We ventured around Snohomish enjoying some of the fall colors and then headed back to the venue for the ceremony. Of course we had to include their dog Dozer…he is 10 years old and aging quickly but was such a trooper and hung in there for a variety of photos.
Although misting it was a lovely ceremony, even more special because it was performed by Gretchen’s cousin. They wrote their own vows and said ‘I DO’…and were ready to celebrate.
They were surrounded by many family and friends that have supported them through some really tough times. They have persevered and everyone was thrilled to see them become Mr. & Mrs. Green.
Congratulations Gretchen & Jacob! Hope you had enjoyed every moment and your Hawaii trip will be here before you know it.
