When you grow up in small town Saskatchewan it’s not that hard to be good at a sport…especially when you are the only one enrolled in it!!! It’s a great way to ensure you always win GOLD! It was kind of like my own Olympics…where every sport was my ‘signature event’! Ok so there was more than just me but sometimes having a small school with small classes certainly had its advantages(and when I say small I mean like 17 people in my graduating class small)…
Business kind of works that way too. Having worked for a small company that was later acquired by a large corporation, I can now appreciate the pros & cons of sole-proprietorship & the small business world. I guess I would say Photography is my ‘signature event’ but not everything that goes along with it. Of course there are administrative tasks that I can do…I may not always love them but I choose to do them. I realize there may come a day that I choose to not, but I feel I will appreciate those that I hire to do them…as everyone has their own ‘signature event’.
As Bob and I were shooting a wedding last weekend and I realized that wedding photography is probably more like Beach Volleyball and yes I am Misty May (um not quite). I guess I’m on an Olympic analogy roll. My point being where I can’t be…he is. Setting me up for the spike, never asking for credit and barely getting a Thank you (probably makes you want to work with me!!). Without him I wouldn’t have the constant
nagging encouragement and have him as my sidekick…and without him as my 2nd shooter I never would have got this shot of the bride with her new niece as I photographed the groom with his mom!
On another note, I really wish skipping across lily pads was a sport...I am sure I would win!
